St. Petersburg cleared the way and put women’s tennis centre stage.
From 8th-14th February two tennis tournaments took place, the 2016 St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy and the St. Petersburg Head Cup Ladies Open Junior.
The St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy is an international women`s tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. This year’s Ladies’ Trophy was part of the WTA premier event for the first time. Previously, it was known as the Ladies Neva Cup and part of the ITF Women’s Circuit event. The St. Petersburg Head Cup Ladies Open Junior is a Russian national tennis tournament for young players up to 15 years of age. The 32 best tennis players from nine regions of Russia competed for the trophy. Both tournaments were played according to the same regulations.
The professional tournament lured the tennis fans with quality tennis and famous names such as:
Roberta Vinci, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Belinda Bencic, and in doubles of course Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza. The junior tournament rewarded tennis friends with a super atmosphere and the spirit of great competition at reasonable prices. During this tennis week two important events with tennis stars were organized: “Master-Class for kids” and Workshop: “It’s time for tennis”.
I had the privilege of working at the Ladies Open Junior, supporting my young tennis players throughout the tournament.
It was a fantastic experience with unforgettable matches, fierce competition and intense emotion. St Petersburg and I go back a long way and I’m always happy to return to that great and beautiful city either privately or professionally.
