Have you got an irrepressible desire to be the best? Are you looking for the training forms and techniques which will help you put all your energy and concentration into your performance without the danger of burnout? Is it important to you to build a long lasting, successful sports career?

These are the question which many of the athletes that I coach are asking? So it wash`t by chance that I attended the two day seminar `Developing a long lasting winning mindset`organized by BASPO ( Federal Office of Sport ) at the beginning of November 2014.

The seminar was intended to be a further block to support this goal and answer the question: which trainings forms, methods and techniques will best develop a long lasting winning mindset?

During the seminar this question was discussed with many colleagues. One contribution came from Kristoffer Henriksen a sports psychologist from Denmark. There the trainers build a long lasting winning mindset step by step in their daily training. They have come to the realization that sport`s culture and improved performance are connected with each other and that you have to practice what you preach or `walk the talk`.

Insights from the Swiss experience with regards to the winning mindset were by three experts. Hanspeter Gubelmann spoke about his years of experience as a sports psychologist with ski jumpers. His colleague Jürg Bühler talked about the world of Swiss Tennis, where they work with a program concept supporting tennis players psychologically and mentally long term. The football trainer Heinz Moser presented innovative trainings forms to develop and increase the mental strength of football team. In workshops we exchanged experiences and discussed about everyday problems in training.

Through my own personal experience as an athlete and mental trainer, I know which factors can influence performance in sport. The personal environment of the athlete plays an essential role. When all the people involved with the athlete are committed to working together the goal can be achieved. This is a long term process which requires expertise, practical experience, work, patience,
and passion.
